Singapore Airlines gets a new look as ground staff don fresh uniforms

The uniforms of Singapore Airlines’ cabin and ground staff have always been impressive. To strengthen its corporate image and sense of fashion, Singapore Airlines has introduced new uniforms for its ground staff in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and mainland China starting in July. This is the fifth uniform update for the airline since its founding in 1972.

While the styles of Singapore Airlines’ ground staff uniforms have varied over the years, female staff have consistently featured a distinctive sapphire blue \堑侠? (kebaya)-inspired top. This complements the airline’s iconic sarong kebaya worn by its female cabin crew. The uniforms from 1968–1974 were designed by Pierre Balmain, continuing the design from the 1968 Malaysia-Singapore Airlines era; 1974–1988 featured fuchsia-toned uniforms also by Pierre Balmain; 1988–1999 showcased a dark beige suit series for women designed by Hermès; 1999–2011 included a cobalt-blue top and navy slim skirt combination by Pierre Balmain; and the latest 2011 uniforms were co-designed by Pacific Brands and ground staff representatives.

The new uniform retains the signature elements of the airline’s iconic sarong kebaya, featuring a navy blue top with three-quarter sleeves and a boat neckline, paired with a tailored pencil skirt and a single-breasted blazer. Both the skirt and the blazer are outfitted with multiple pockets, combining practicality with aesthetics. This allows Singapore Airlines’ ground staff to deliver professional service with an elegant appearance and the warm hospitality characteristic of Asia. Male ground staff wear dark navy suits paired with sky-blue shirts and the airline’s signature ties. For female ground staff serving in temperate regions, Singapore Airlines has also introduced newly designed long trench coats paired with \堑侠? (batik)-style scarves as part of the winter uniform.
