Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival Announces Twice-Yearly Events: Combine Lantern Festival & Mid-Autumn Festival to Boost Year-Round Tourism

The New Taipei City Government announced on the 10th that the 2017 Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival will be held on both February 11 (Lantern Festival) and October 4 (Mid-Autumn Festival), while supporting local development, it preserves the tradition of releasing lanterns in Shifen during the Lantern Festival, while the Mid-Autumn Festival will host a second event in Pingxi. The festival will promote Pingxi's unique features year-round to maintain tourism momentum throughout the year.

After years of promotion, the Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival attracts numerous visitors every year. According to statistics from the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation, Pingxi has even become one of the top 10 most popular destinations for independent travelers visiting Taiwan for the first time. Last year, it was also recommended by National Geographic as one of the "Top 10 Best Winter Travel Destinations in the World." What was originally a local event has now evolved into an international, year-round representative activity. Today, Pingxi sees tourists from around the world at all times, and local business districts and associations have launched a series of special events to help more people get to know this wonderful place.

This year’s Lantern Festival-themed series of special events in the Pingxi business district include lantern release activities along the Pingxi and Jingtong areas on February 4 and 5. Additionally, starting January 28, there will be a one-month stamp-collecting event where participants can exchange beautifully crafted gifts and enter a lucky draw by collecting five electronic stamps during the event period.

In addition to the Lantern Festival session, another sky lantern release event will be held on October 4, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and everyone is welcome to join in the celebration.
