Taipei Holds Its First International Bicycle Film Festival in October

Taipei leads Chinese-speaking regions by becoming the host city of the Bicycle Film Festival (International Bicycle Film Festival; abbreviated as BFF). The “2011 Taipei International Bicycle Film Festival” will make its exciting debut in October. The “Slow Travel. Taipei” photo and video exhibition call for submissions kicks off first, running from now until September 15, 2011, inviting the public to submit photos or videos themed around “bicycle & memories,” “bicycle & travel,” and “bicycle & life,” showcasing Taipei’s unique bicycle imagery and lifestyle. The champion can take home a cash prize of NT$60,000, with total prize money reaching NT$220,000.

The BFF organization originated in New York and has expanded from the Americas, Europe, and Africa to Asia, becoming one of the world’s largest bicycle culture events. The series of events for the “2011 Taipei International Bicycle Film Festival” include: Bike to Work—inviting the public to ride bicycles and experience alternative commuting routes; discovering Taipei’s diverse bicycle culture through the “Slow Travel. Taipei” photo and video exhibition; fun family-friendly bicycle competitions; as well as concerts celebrating bicycle lifestyles and international film screenings.

BFF founder Brendt Barbur shared at the press conference the legendary story of how the BFF International Bicycle Film Festival was born out of a car accident, and further explained that the philosophy of BFF is to serve as a platform for exchanging music, art, and films related to bicycles. It aims to position the bicycle not just as a mode of transport or sport, but also as an important medium for life, culture, and art. Through annual events held in over 30 cities worldwide, BFF hopes to share the wonderful experience of cycling with every corner of the world.
