Tourism in Japan’s Tohoku region is rebounding, with EVA Air resuming flights to Sendai

After the 311 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Sendai Airport was flooded and, following months of emergency repairs and restoration, officially reopened on July 25. Most of the major tourist attractions in the Tohoku region have also largely returned to their former state. As the tourism high season in Japan’s Tohoku region begins in late September, to meet market demand, EVA Air initially operated charter flights in September. Starting from the winter schedule on October 30, the airline resumes twice-weekly flight services, and bookings are now open to passengers.

EVA Air’s resumed Taipei–Sendai route, beginning October 30, departs Taipei Taoyuan Airport at 10:00 AM every Thursday and Sunday, arriving in Sendai at 2:05 PM local time; the return flight departs Sendai at 4:15 PM local time on the same day, arriving back in Taipei Taoyuan Airport at 7:30 PM Taipei time, with a one-way flight duration of approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Located in central Miyagi Prefecture, Sendai is the largest city in Japan’s Tohoku region. Established and developed as a city in the 17th century, it is rich in cultural heritage and natural scenery, offering a wealth of tourist attractions and is one of the most popular destinations for domestic travel in Japan. Matsushima Bay, located in the suburbs, is known as one of Japan’s Three Great Views, featuring densely forested islands covered with lush pine trees, giving visitors the feeling of being in a celestial paradise; Sendai’s famous Akayu Onsen served as an exclusive hot spring resort for nobility during the Edo period and is ranked alongside Arima Onsen and Dogo Onsen as one of Japan’s three great hot springs.
