Engaging with art: Renowned Taiwanese master painter Yu Peng unveils his exhibition in Taiwan

Internationally acclaimed master painter Yu Peng will hold his most extensive solo exhibition in Taiwan in recent years — “Yu Peng Solo Exhibition: The Remnant, The Migrant, The Free Spirit” — at Taipei’s Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Eslite Performance Hall from now until October 10. Meanwhile, Star Cruises’ SuperStar Aquarius, which is based in Taipei and Keelung, will also display three of his artworks onboard, giving travelers from around the world the opportunity to appreciate the brilliance of this Taiwanese master.

Yu Peng is one of the few local Taiwanese artists to gain international recognition. His works have received acclaim in the auction market, and world-renowned museums such as the British Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art also house various pieces by him. Without any formal fine arts education, he entered the art scene as a street artist in his youth. Later, he traveled across Europe and China, rediscovering the legacy of Chinese literati aesthetics through both Eastern and Western art circles. In recent years, his creations have primarily focused on ink wash and oil painting. His candid approach to creation and lifestyle infuses his works with a strong personal touch, while also opening up new frontiers for contemporary Chinese ink painting.

Alongside the art exhibition, organizer Genting Hong Kong has also carefully curated three events related to the theme of the show, including in-depth panel discussions, musical performances, and guided tours led by scholars. In addition to Yu Peng himself joining “Father of Taiwanese Folk Songs” Hu Defu, “Rambling Singer and Producer” Wang Cheng, and Taiwanese classical guitar legend Sunny Day in a soulful performance, the event also invites well-known food writer Han Lianglu, Chinese author Che Qianzi, and curator Zhang Yuanqian for a joint discussion.
