The 81st Anniversary Memorial Ceremony of the Wushe Incident Takes Visitors on a Tour of Atayal Historical Sites

The popular film *Seediq Bale*, based on the 1930 Wushe Incident, has kept the fervor alive since its release. October 27 marks the 81st anniversary of the Wushe Incident, and a grand celebration will be held locally. Since adding a memorial ceremony to the anniversary in the previous year, this year will feature free guided tours at ten key sites related to the Wushe Incident, allowing the public to gain a deeper understanding of this important chapter in Taiwan’s history.

Lee Chao-ching, Magistrate of Nantou County, stated that on October 27, the Wushe Incident Memorial Day, apart from holding a solemn ceremony in Ren'ai Township, there will also be free guided tours at ten locations: Chuanzhong Island, Renzhi Pass, Wushe Public School, Rodofu Village, the Monuments to Mona Rudao, Balan Village, Talowan Village, Hego Village, Sukuku Village, and Mahapu Village. The area has also launched a one-day Seediq Bale movie tour for groups of four at NT$900 per person, and a two-day, one-night historical trail tour of the Wushe Incident for groups of four at NT$1,800 per person. Huang Li-hui, CEO of See Taiwan Foundation—one of the event organizers—also mentioned that leveraging the momentum of the film *Seediq Bale*, the foundation is taking a diversified marketing approach to help Ren'ai Township in Nantou (including the Qingliu Tribe), one of the homelands of the Seediq descendants, gain global recognition and shine on the world stage. In the future, the foundation also plans to assist the region in becoming a highlight of cultural tourism, boosting economic vitality for local tribal residents.
