The East Coast Sailfish Season Kicks Off on November 19 — Enjoy Seafood & Learn Spearfishing

Good news for sailfish lovers！ The East Coast Sailfish Season will be held from November 19 to 27 in Chenggong Township, Taitung County. On the opening day, a unique local sailfish deity will be paraded for blessings, and local chefs will perform a “Fish Butchering Show,” where they dissect a sailfish on-site and auction it publicly. During the nine-day event, various themed activities are planned, including offshore spearfishing experiences, visits to Baishoulian Fishing Village, and leisurely town strolls, allowing visitors to experience the charm of fishing communities.

Sign up for the offshore spearfishing experience to board a fishing boat and learn how to spear sailfish from local fishermen. The Baishoulian Fishing Village experience includes performances by the Bixilijian Paw Paw Drum Band and guided tours of the fishing village, with each activity costing just NT$50 per person. The Town Stroll activity offers free bicycles (limited to 30 people per day), starting from East Coast Hotel and cycling to Sanxiantai to enjoy the coastal scenery along the way.

Participating in the Sailfish Season offers fun, food, and even prizes. Visitors can pick up a guide map at the opening venue, Chenggong Local Pavilion, or any certified restaurant in Chenggong Township. Visit 12 listed spots for experiences or tours, collect more than six stamps, and receive a beautiful souvenir. Limited to 1,000 gifts, while supplies last.

To accommodate this year’s Sailfish Season, shuttle buses will be available on the opening day, November 19. Buses will depart at 8:00 AM from the Taitung Old Station Visitor Service Center and the Zhiben Dongtai Hotel to take visitors to the event venue.
