January 15: Enjoy a concert and orchid exhibition at Sun Moon Lake to welcome the Year of the Dragon

A week before Lunar New Year’s Eve, the Xiangshan Administrative & Visitor Center at Sun Moon Lake and the nearby Shuishe Visitor Center will host a New Year concert and an orchid art exhibition this Sunday (1/15). It's a great opportunity for those planning to visit Nantou or looking to avoid the holiday crowds to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

The New Year concert starts at 3:00 PM, performed by a classical orchestra. The repertoire includes three Chinese folk songs arranged by composer Li Zheyi: Flower Drum of Fengyang, Jasmine Flower, and Song of the Ussuri River Boatmen; the Little Symphony by composer Jiang Wenye; a collection of dances by Tchaikovsky; anime soundtracks from Studio Ghibli including Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro; Ancient Dances by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi; and the concert will close with a special performance of Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante by Wu Tingyu (violin), current concertmaster of the National Symphony Orchestra, and Zeng Qingran (viola), former concertmaster of the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra.

The orchid art exhibition at the Shuishe Visitor Center runs from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with Sunday being the last day of the display—don’t miss your chance to visit.
The architectural art of the Xiangshan Administrative & Visitor Center, paired with the beautiful scenery of Sun Moon Lake, has always been a favorite spot for visitors to take photos. Yuchi Township is also the heart of Taiwan’s orchid production, known especially for its national orchids and cymbidiums, along with the area’s sweet and mellow black tea. Surrounded by tea tasting, orchid appreciation, and enchanting music, your trip to Sun Moon Lake will be both artistic and romantic.
