Miaoli Asian Dragon Dance Competition: 7 Teams from 6 Countries Battle for Supremacy

The 2012 Asian Dragon Dance Open and Asian Youth Dragon Dance Championships will take place over three days starting tomorrow (the 17th) at the Miaoli Arena. Top dragon dance teams from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, South Korea, and other countries will compete, while Taiwan will be represented by Miaoli Zhuolan Experimental High School and Changhua Tat College. Visitors to the event can enjoy high-level dragon dance performances and witness the colorful charm of glow-in-the-dark dragons.

The schedule for this year’s Asian Dragon Dance competition is as follows: tomorrow evening from 7:00 to 9:30 PM is the glow-in-the-dark dragon preliminary round; on the 18th, from 2:00 to 4:30 PM is the competitive dragon dance routine finals, and from 7:00 to 9:30 PM is the opening ceremony and glow-in-the-dark dragon finals; the competitive dragon dance freestyle routine finals and the closing awards ceremony will be held on the 19th from 2:00 to 4:30 PM.

During the three-day competition, the public can enter for free. Additionally, those who visit to watch the glow-in-the-dark dragon competitions on the evenings of the 17th and 18th will receive limited-edition commemorative gifts. Miaoli County Magistrate Liu Cheng-hung also encouraged Zhuolan Experimental High School, representing the local team, to strive for top honors for their hometown during a press conference, promising a NT$2 million bonus if they win the championship.
