White Day Music Feast Kicks Off in Checheng on March 10

After celebrating the romantic Western Valentine’s Day, are you planning to take your relationship to the next level with your partner? In recent years, Taiwan has also embraced the Japanese way of celebrating Valentine’s Day: women give gifts to their love interests on February 14, and their partners return the favor with gifts and expressions of affection on March 14, known as “White Day.”

Following this trend, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration will host the “2012 Romantic Checheng White Day Music Feast” on March 10. The event will feature an on-site opportunity for a couple to propose — if successful, the organizers will present one special commemorative gift to the pair (limited to one couple, priority based on faxed registration and remittance submission times; the gift package also applies to couples marrying within a year — those presenting a wedding invitation will receive two free bottles of wine per table from Checheng Winery, up to 100 tables). Registration runs from February 15 to February 29.

The registration fee for the nighttime lover’s music feast is NT$600 per couple (two people, either lovers or spouses; limited to 101 pairs). Participants can enjoy a nighttime barbecue, roasted wild boar, simple meals, and will also receive two commemorative POLO shirts embroidered with the words “Lovers’ Checheng.” If fewer than 50 couples (100 people) register or if the Central Weather Bureau forecasts rain seven days before the event, the organizers will cancel the event and refund all fees without interest.

Those registering for the Checheng Nighttime Lover’s Music Feast are advised to first experience a green tunnel bike ride in Jiji Town that morning; or visit the Pinglin Tea Plantation in Xinyi Township for tea tasting, soak in the hot springs at Dongpu, or enjoy a specialty plum meal in Shuili or Xinyi. They can also visit the railway area in Checheng before attending the evening music feast.
