Taipei, Matsu, Penghu, and Taitung in urgent need of votes; Taipei city districts launch lucky draw campaign to rally support

The Tourism Bureau’s “Taiwan’s Top 10 Small Tourist Towns” selection has entered the second and final round. The voting period will end at 12:00 noon on March 9. Currently, Beigan Township of Lienchiang County (Matsu), Beitou Fenghua Town in Taipei City, Luoyeh—the hometown of hot air balloons—in Taitung County, and Makong, a town of folk culture in Penghu County, are the bottom four, with urgent vote shortages; meanwhile, San yi Wooden Sculpture Art City in Miaoli County has been steadily advancing and is temporarily in the lead with over 200,000 votes.

Due to Beitou Fenghua Town’s significant vote shortfall, the Taipei City Government has mobilized 50 major business districts across the city to boost votes. Starting tomorrow (2/25), about 100 voting stations will be set up in 20 business districts, including Ningxia Business District, Houtienzhan Business District, Dalongtong Business District, Monga Business District, Ximending Business District, National Taiwan University Gongguan Business District, Xinbeitou Hot Spring Business District, and Maokong Tea & Leisure Business District. Members of the public who vote on-site to support Taipei can enter the lucky draw for prizes provided by local businesses, including beef noodle meals, hot spring vouchers, and pineapple cakes, totaling 50,000 giveaways.

In addition, from now until March 4, every Saturday and Sunday starting at 1:00 p.m., I LOVE BEITOU and XINYI voting events will be held in Beitou District and Xinyi District. Those who vote on-site will receive commemorative coasters prepared by the Tourism and Travel Bureau, while supplies last.

Liu Cheng-hung, Magistrate of Miaoli County, whose district is currently leading, stated that Miaoli’s San yi boasts Taiwan’s only international woodcarving museum, a street dedicated to the woodcarving industry, and the historic Old Mountain Line—recognized as a potential UNESCO World Heritage Site—as well as unique cultural festivals such as the Wooden Sculpture Art Festival, Cloud Fire Dragon Festival, and Hakka Tung Blossom Festival, all of which meet the criteria for Taiwan’s Top 10 Small Tourist Towns. Taichung’s Dajia District, known for its Mazu culture, and Kaohsiung’s Meinong District have both exceeded 160,000 votes, ranking second and third respectively. For the “Taiwan’s Top 10 Small Tourist Towns” vote, each person can cast up to 6 votes per day for different towns. Online voting ends at 12:00 noon on March 9, and postcard voting must be postmarked by March 7.
