Top 10 Tourist Towns Vote: Sanyi Secures First Place with Over 460,000 Votes

Organized by the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, the Taiwan Top 10 Tourist Towns selection saw a voting period lasting over a month. As of the March 9 noon cutoff, among the 17 towns shortlisted nationwide, Sanyi stood out with its distinctive woodcarving art theme, Taiwan’s only woodcarving industry cluster, convenient transportation network, internationally renowned tourist attractions, diverse and engaging travel experiences, warm hospitality, and strong local support for tourism development—securing the top spot in the vote.

According to the Tourism Bureau’s official website data as of the voting deadline, Miaoli County’s “Sanyi Woodcarving Art Town” received 461,311 votes (214,536 online votes and 246,775 postcard votes), firmly taking the lead. It was followed by Taoyuan County’s “Daxi Presidential Town” with a gap of 52,331 votes. The full rankings were: Taichung City’s “Dajia District Mazu Culture,” Tainan City’s “Anping—Where Taiwan’s Name Originated,” Kaohsiung City’s “Meinong District—Meinong’s Warmth and Charm,” Nantou County’s “Jiji Town—Train Impressions & Breezy Jiji,” Kinmen County’s “Houpu, Jincheng—A Quaint Old Town,” New Taipei City’s “Ruifang District Shuijinjiu Region—The Secret Mines,” Changhua County’s “Lukang Town—Crafts, Cuisine, and Historic Sites,” Yilan County’s “Jiaoxi—A Wellness Town of Hot Springs,” Pingtung County’s “Liuqiu Township—Intertidal Zone,” Taipei City’s “Xinyi—Fashion Capital,” Taipei City’s “Beitou—A Town of Charm,” Lienchiang County’s “Beigan, Matsu,” Taitung County’s “Hot Air Balloon Homeland—Luoshan,” Penghu County’s “Makong Folk Town,” and Hualien County’s “Ruisui Township—Tea, Dairy, and Hot Spring Aromas.”

The second phase of the Taiwan Top 10 Tourist Towns vote accounted for 20% of the total score, while written reviews, expert site inspections, and presentations by participating towns made up the remaining 80%. With only the March 14 town presentations remaining, the final list of the Top 10 Tourist Towns will soon be announced.
