March 31: Call for 1-Hour Lights-Out Gains Support from 100 Major Landmarks Across Taiwan

The Wilderness Conservation Association and Taipei 101, the world’s tallest green building, join forces once more to support the 2012 Earth Hour initiative, calling on 100 major landmarks and corporate buildings across Taiwan to turn off their lights together. On Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 8:30 PM, the collective one-hour blackout aims to contribute to a global energy-saving movement.

Since 2005, the Wilderness Conservation Association has been actively promoting the Summer Lights-Out campaign. Taipei 101 joined the Earth Hour initiative in 2009, and Taipei Shangri-La's Far Eastern Plaza Hotel is also participating enthusiastically in this global blackout event this year. In addition, the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung, Guang San Sogo Department Store, as well as Kaohsiung’s City Light Gallery and Dream Mall, will all take part. To date, over 5,200 cities, 138 countries, and 2 billion people worldwide have joined the movement.

The Wilderness Conservation Association stated that this year, in addition to aiming for participation from 100 major landmarks across Taiwan and inviting more than 300 corporate buildings and iconic sites to turn off their lights, they have also partnered with L’Oréal Taiwan to launch a celebrity-led countdown to the lights-out event. They have invited celebrities such as [names redacted] and others to serve as advocates, encouraging everyone to participate in the lights-out event from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on Saturday, March 31.
