Showcasing the Unique Charms of Thailand: Seven Magical Activities Continue Until April 1

To boost tourism, the Thai government has designated 2012 as the “Miracle Year of Amazing Thailand.” Yesterday (the 29th), an opening ceremony was held at the IMPACT Exhibition Hall in Muang Thong Thani. The event will run for four consecutive days, ending on April 1. From 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, the venue will feature seven magical themed activities showcasing Thailand, including simulated traditional Thai markets, floating markets, live demonstrations of handicrafts and textile production, as well as royal Thai cuisine and free Thai massage experiences. In addition to displaying special products, there will also be sales available, and entry is free for visitors.

The venue is divided into seven exhibition zones, each dedicated to one of Thailand’s seven magical themes. The first booth upon entering showcases products from the Thai Royal Project. The Royal Project is an initiative by the Thai royal family aimed at improving the lives of people in remote villages by helping them develop and sell products based on their local specialties, with profits returned to the communities. Each member of the royal family is responsible for specific projects, with the King alone overseeing between three to four thousand initiatives. Among the Royal Project products, one of the most well-known in Taiwan is the popular souvenir—Royal Milk Tablets. Other goods include woven items, pottery, dairy products, and agricultural produce, offering a wide variety. Products displayed at the venue include cowhide woven bags, Thai silk handbags, and ceramic plates. Handwoven cowhide bags are priced around 2,400 THB each, Thai silk handbags around 260 THB, and ceramic plates range from 100 to 300 THB.

Thai cuisine is world-renowned. At the floating markets and traditional market booths, visitors can try traditional snacks such as Thai iced tea and sweets, while refined royal dishes are also displayed by the lotus pond. Additionally, Thai weaving, carving, silverware, essential oils, rare birdcage crafts, as well as traditional cultural heritage performances like mask dances, musical instrument displays, and Muay Thai (Thai boxing) are all showcased on-site. There is also the highly popular free Thai massage service. Through this tourism event, Thailand not only reaffirms that its tourism industry has fully recovered from the impact of floods but also aims to attract 19.55 million visitors in 2012.
