Japan’s renowned conveyor belt sushi chain “Kura Sushi” has officially opened its first-ever street-front store in Taiwan on the 18th, Up!, with its first location in Taiwan situated in Taichung. The store features a traditional Japanese kura (earthen storehouse) architectural design, giving visitors the feeling of being right in Japan. Here, you can enjoy sushi to your heart’s content and snap stylish, Japan-inspired street photos.

With pristine white walls, sloping tiled roofs, and a large sign reading くら寿司 (Kura Sushi), the Fuke Road, Taichung branch of Kura Sushi is designed to resemble a traditional Japanese warehouse, making you feel like you’ve stepped into Japan in an instant. Not only is the exterior unique, but it also offers dedicated parking spaces. The store has a total of 199 seats and includes private rooms that seat 4 to 6 people, making it ideal for family and friends gatherings.

In addition to its uniform 40-TWD sushi offerings, those who don’t eat raw food can opt for Japanese dishes such as udon noodles and tempura. What’s more special is that after eating five plates, you can toss the empty plates into the recycling bin and then try your luck at a capsule toy (gashapon) vending machine via the touchscreen — enjoy delicious food and the fun of gashapon all in one go.
