The grand inspection tour of Matou Dai Tianfu Temple kicks off today, running for three consecutive days with full route documentation via navigation features

The triennial inspection tour of the Five Lords of Fude at Tainan’s Matou Dai Tianfu Temple began this morning with a grand departure ceremony inside the temple. After the ritual, 155 divine palanquins, performance troupes, and folk art groups paraded through the Matou area. This year’s event uniquely integrates the GIS Center of Academia Sinica, combining GIS route navigation with the sacred procession maps of various temples, documenting the full routes of the inspection tours. The temple authorities noted that Dai Tianfu Temple enshrines the Five Lords of Fude (Li, Chi, Wu, Zhu, Fan), one of Taiwan’s most significant shrines for the Lord worship faith, with devotees spread across Taiwan and abroad. The Matou Xiang (inspection tour), held triennially and commonly known as “she xiang” (cutting incense), is held to pray for national prosperity, peace, and favorable weather. Running from today through Sunday (the 15th), this grand event features 155 divine palanquins, performance troupes, art floats, Songjiang formations, and Golden Lion troupes, creating an unprecedentedly magnificent spectacle. The parade stretches 3–4 kilometers in length, with all groups gathering at Dai Tianfu Temple at 5 PM each day for a ceremonial three-firecracker start. The three-day event will traverse 29 neighborhoods within Matou District.
This Xiangke Year event also introduces innovations such as check-ins, stamp-collecting raffles, and photography contests.
