Hakka Tung Blossom Festival APP provides real-time blossom updates and rewards for flower hunters

The “2012 Hakka Tung Blossom Festival” kicks off today and runs until May 20. This major Taiwanese tourism event, which has attracted 6.48 million visitors, generated NT$23.1 billion in total revenue, and achieved a satisfaction rate of 97.98% since 2010, will this year host a record-breaking 2,468 events across 13 counties and cities, including 20 large and medium-sized cultural and artistic performances nationwide. In addition, now is the perfect time to admire the tung blossoms. The Council of Hakka Affairs has launched a smartphone app (APP) for the “Hakka Tung Blossom Festival.” Volunteers will provide real-time updates on blossom conditions. This year also introduces a new “Blossom Catching” game, allowing visitors to enjoy the flowers and compete for cash prizes of up to NT$30,000.

Last year, the Council of Hakka Affairs released a smartphone app (APP) for the “Hakka Tung Blossom Festival,” enabling visitors to stay updated on blossom conditions across various locations. This year, an augmented reality mobile game called “Blossom Catching” has been added. Simply visit one of the 101 designated tung blossom spots, open the “Hakka Tung Blossom Festival” APP, go to the “Tung Blossom Points King” activity page, and use your phone’s augmented reality feature to catch virtual tung blossoms. The player who catches the most wins the title of Tung Blossom Points King. The event runs from today until May 30, with the top three winners receiving NT$30,000, NT$20,000, and NT$10,000 respectively.

To help the public engage more deeply with Hakka cultural creativity and boost participation, the Council of Hakka Affairs has specially organized the “Stamp Your Tung Blossom Passport” game. From now until May 30, visitors can collect three different types of tung blossom stamps at participating merchants and restaurants during the festival, tear them off, and mail them back to the event team for a chance to win prizes such as a New iPad or a Sony Cyber-shot 16-megapixel camera.
In addition, the Council of Hakka Affairs is distributing free Tung Blossom guidebooks starting today. These can be picked up at PX Mart convenience stores, Taiwan Railway stations, Taipei Metro stations, Taipei Transfer Stations, Tung Blossom merchant and restaurant partners, and more, featuring nearly 200 discount offers. On April 25, they will also be available at FamilyMart convenience stores in the Taoyuan-Hsinchu-Miaoli region. Alternatively, download the “Hakka Tung Blossom Festival” App or visit the Tung Blossom-themed website to print the “Guidebook” and enjoy the same discounts.
