The annual Macao “Marine Department Day” series of events is set to kick off on May 12, and the highlight is the opening of the Guia Lighthouse—the first and oldest in China’s coastal areas and the oldest in the Far East—for visitors to ascend and admire the Pearl River scenery. The Guia Lighthouse, with its snow-white exterior accented by yellow lines, once served as an important navigational aid for ships entering the Pearl River before radar became widespread. Along with landmarks such as the Ruins of St. Paul’s and the Macao Taipa Grande Bridge, it is also known as one of Macao’s Eight Scenes. This year, the lighthouse will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from May 12 to 20, from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Travelers planning to visit Macao in May should seize the chance to see this mysterious lighthouse, the oldest in the Far East.

In addition, the Macao Maritime Museum will be open to the public free of charge from May 18 to 20, and a “Windswept Waters, Fleeting Moments” – Fishing Boat and Life Exhibition will be held in front of the museum. The exhibition includes photos of fishermen’s lives and life-size model sampans, with live demonstrations of net weaving by local fishermen, offering visitors a glimpse into the lives of early Macao fishermen. Additionally, the canoeing and sailing competitions organized by the Marine Department of Macao will take place at 10:00 AM on the 13th in the waters off Hac Sa Beach. Water sports enthusiasts can come watch the races.
