Stay at homestays? Look for the certification. First wave sees 323 hospitality-certified homestays pass evaluation

Following the star-rated hotel certification, the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has launched the “Hospitality Homestay” program. Last year, it opened registration to all legally operated homestays nationwide. A total of 711 homestays participated in the basic training course for the Hospitality Homestay program, and eventually 391 applied for the Hospitality Homestay selection. Each homestay had to undergo rigorous vetting by local governments, as well as on-site evaluations by a panel of professional inspectors comprising media representatives, industry experts, and academics. The “Hospitality Homestay Selection Committee,” formed by industry, government, and academic representatives, then confirmed there were no disputes before deciding whether to approve or reject each application. By the end of April, the first wave of selections was completed, with a total of 323 homestays passing.

The Tourism Bureau stated that all homestays selected through the process boast a certain standard in both service quality and physical facilities. Almost all homestay owners demonstrate warm and welcoming hospitality, making guests feel right at home upon arrival. The “Hospitality Homestay Taiwan Host” certification mark represents the service spirit of Taiwan’s homestays and is valid for three years.

The homestays that passed this round of the Hospitality selection are all run by hosts who are passionate about Taiwan’s tourism industry. Whether they are seasoned homestay operators — such as Fuyuan Mountain Villa in the remote mountain tribal area of Lala Mountain, Sumen Forest Life Homestay run by a former tech industry professional returning to his hometown, Mingshui Lodge relocated from Taipei to Sanchong Township, or the homestay village operated by local guides in Penghu — each offers a distinct style of management. Some are ideal for family vacations, some exude exotic charm, while others are perfect for a secluded mountain retreat. The range of Hospitality Homestays is highly diverse, with every owner demonstrating deep love for the land as well as a warm and friendly service attitude.
