The hot spot for dinosaur research — Fossils from Moon Valley make their Taiwan debut to recreate the Triassic period

Children’s favorite dinosaurs will join everyone for summer vacation. The “Exhibition of the Earth’s Oldest Dinosaurs” is being held at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall from now until September 16. Featuring 80 fossils and models of Triassic-era dinosaurs and other creatures from Argentina, enhanced with computer-generated sound, light, and special effects, the exhibition transports visitors to an ancient, primordial world.

All exhibits in the “Exhibition of the Earth’s Oldest Dinosaurs” come from Ischigualasto Provincial Park in San Juan, Argentina, also known as “Moon Valley.” Located in a vast arid region, the park’s stunning white and red strata create a dreamlike landscape. Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000, it has been one of the most popular global locations for dinosaur research over the past two decades.

The “Exhibition of the Earth’s Oldest Dinosaurs” is the first large-scale special exhibition in the world to fully present three major species—dinosaurs, crocodilians, and mammals—from 230 million years ago, showcasing their coexistence and competition. The Japanese NHK ROMOTIONS, responsible for curating the exhibit, specially dispatched professional photographers to Argentina to capture high-definition images of the geological formations and the arduous process of archaeologists excavating dinosaur fossils. They also produced exclusive animated films illustrating the survival and competition among the three major species at the end of the Triassic period, vividly depicting the birth and extinction of ancient life forms.
