The visa exemption for Chinese nationals traveling to South Korea has been extended to 90 days starting from July.

Taiwan and South Korea have reached an agreement to extend the mutual visa-free stay period from 30 days to 90 days, effective July 1 of this year. The 2012 Yeosu Expo has already begun and will run until August 12. Those planning to visit the expo next month will benefit perfectly from this new measure.

Since the implementation of the mutual visa exemption between Taiwan and South Korea in 2003 and the resumption of direct flights in 2005, the number of bilateral visits has increased from 550,000 in 2005 to 660,000 in 2011. Last year, the number of Taiwanese visitors to South Korea exceeded 420,000, ranking among the top five international travel destinations for Taiwanese.

To facilitate people-to-people exchanges, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after active negotiations with the South Korean side, has reached an agreement to extend the mutual visa-free stay period from 30 days to 90 days, starting July 1. It is expected that this new visa measure will further enhance tourism activities between the two countries, as well as academic and youth exchanges during summer and winter vacations.
