Hakka Cultural Park DIY events are all the rage – paint wooden shoes and decorate glass vases for free

Parent-child DIY trips are becoming a trend. In addition to leisure farms across Taiwan offering hands-on activities, the Miaoli Hakka Cultural Park is also hosting free DIY sessions for families during the summer break. These are guided by ten local cultural industry businesses in Miaoli, with activities including decorating glass vases, painting wooden shoes, and making wooden figurines. The event runs from now until August 19, open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. There are five sessions per day, each lasting one hour, with on-site registration.

In this “Kiki Kou Kou Hands-On” event, cultural and creative businesses from various interdisciplinary industries in Miaoli will be stationed at the Hakka Cultural Park to guide visitors in hands-on crafts. For example, Pan Yuemei Workshop specializes in leather carving prints and dyeing; Cuba Leisure Resort has expanded from the traditional charcoal industry into tourism and leisure, combining the practicality of lighting charcoal, moisture-proofing, and drying with everyday applications by developing bamboo charcoal cards; Yida Herbal uses fabric bags originally used for packaging throat lozenges and soap products, and through floral fabric collage and crackle techniques, creates Hakka floral fabric “Decoupage,” which is both practical and has a vintage charm.

In addition, participating businesses include the “Painted Fairy Pitta Wood Carving” by the Tongxiao Fuli Rural Development Association; the “Glass Bead Vase” by Cathay Glass Sightseeing Factory; the “123 Wooden Figurine” by Zhamu Workshop; the “Painted Ceramic Bell” by Hui Gu Tao Yi; the “Silkworm Cocoon Flower” brought by Quanming Ecological Education; the “Straw Weaving” by Shan Shui Mi Organic Rice Field; and the “Painted Wooden Shoes” at the Dutch Wooden Shoe Painting House, totaling 10 businesses that allow children and parents to enjoy a summer parent-child art and culture journey through diverse DIY projects.
