Chess pieces are moved by “carrying”! The Fuhé Bridge Giant Chess Set is back in play

Darling, I’ve supersized chess for you. In the giant chess park, chess pieces aren’t picked up but “carried,” and moves aren’t thought out but “called out.” To create an age-friendly city and offer seniors diverse recreational activities in riverside parks, New Taipei City Government set up a chess park under Fuhé Bridge in Yonghe District, turning it into a distinctive riverside attraction. In 2014, a giant chessboard was painted on the open space along the riverbank, featuring oversized chess pieces that you can “carry,” integrating chess into riverside art. The giant chess park was previously closed due to seismic reinforcement work on Fuhé Bridge by the bridge management authority, but now that the related construction is complete, the giant chessboard has recently reopened. Chess enthusiasts are welcome to come and experience it.

This park is located under Fuhé Bridge in Yonghe District, New Taipei City, right next to the riverside bike path. Drivers can enter the Fuhé Public Parking Lot via the Fuhé Embankment Access Road, then walk about 5 minutes toward the riverside after parking. Cyclists passing under Fuhé Bridge might catch a glimpse of an exciting chess match.
