Photography Exhibition by the École Française d'Extrême-Orient Showcases the Splendor of Angkor, Kicking Off in Chiayi This Weekend

The National Palace Museum and the École Française d'Extrême-Orient jointly present the special photography exhibition “Archaeology and the Cambodian Angkor Sites – Special Photography Exhibition by the École Française d'Extrême-Orient.” The exhibition will run from tomorrow (the 8th) to October 14th at Warehouse No. 25 of the Xingang Cultural Center in Chiayi County. It features over fifty photographic images that document the work of the École Française d'Extrême-Orient at sites such as the Temple of the Goddess in Cambodia, allowing the public to understand the importance of cultural heritage preservation and to experience the immense charm of the Angkor sites.

This year, the National Palace Museum has collaborated with the École Française d'Extrême-Orient to present the “Archaeology and the Cambodian Angkor Sites – Special Photography Exhibition by the École Française d'Extrême-Orient,” which is being held in Chiayi County, where the museum’s southern branch is located. The exhibition displays over fifty photographic images that introduce the work of the École Française d'Extrême-Orient at sites such as the Temple of the Goddess, Baphuon Temple, and the Serpent Terrace in Cambodia. These precious photographic materials also serve as important references for monument restoration and art archaeology.

In addition, at 14:00 on September 8th at the site of the “Archaeology and the Cambodian Angkor Sites – Special Photography Exhibition by the École Française d'Extrême-Orient,” Dominique Soutif, a researcher from the École Française d'Extrême-Orient, will give a related lecture titled “A Century of Research in Cambodia: Archaeological Activities of the École Française d'Extrême-Orient in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh,” with Chinese interpretation provided.

Since 2005, the National Palace Museum has been collaborating with the École Française d'Extrême-Orient, jointly organizing numerous Southeast Asian art-themed lectures. In 2007 and 2009, they co-hosted the “Southeast Asia Academic Exchange Tour Seminar” and the “Confluence: International Symposium on Asia Shaped Through Exchange,” respectively, inviting experts in the field to engage in academic exchanges as a prelude to the opening of the museum’s southern branch.
