The National Tour of U-Theatre’s “Pistil Crossing the River” Debuts in Taichung on the 28th

On the eve of a temporary halt to its creative output, U-Theatre has unveiled a brand-new version of “Pistil Crossing the River,” which amazed 150,000 visitors at the Taipei Flower Expo. From now until December 8, the show will embark on a national tour, including two performances at Taichung’s Zhongshan Hall on September 28–29. This production is helmed by the young members of U-Theatre, marking their first appearance on the stage of the National Theater with “Pistil Crossing the River.” The performance features vibrant aerial dance and nimble drum acrobatics, presenting a fresh and energetic musical style.

The new work “Pistil Crossing the River” employs newly composed drum scores and a rich, lively theatrical setting to depict a group of young backpackers who stumble upon an ancient temple during their travels. There, they encounter a wandering traveler who guides them to witness the life journey of a small flower—from its tightly closed bud, blooming in the morning sun, full of vitality, flourishing gloriously under the blazing sun, to finally withering away in wind and rain. It is a vivid metaphor for the cycle of a human life.

“Pistil Crossing the River” is divided into six segments: “Prologue,” “Bud,” “Blooming,” “In Full Blossom,” “Withering,” and “Crossing.” It traces the process of a seed growing into a blooming flower, only to return to the earth and become a seed once more. The piece blends rich dramatic storytelling with vibrant visual elements, offering profound poetic imagery through minimalistic expression. The young performers of U-Theatre, trained through a rigorous and systematic creative process, take full responsibility for composition, creation, rehearsal, and performance, showcasing the passion and creativity of the new generation in artistic endeavors.
