The national Confucius Memorial Ceremony is approaching, and pre-registration for admission tickets to Taipei Confucius Temple is now open.

The highly anticipated Confucius Birthday Memorial Ceremony will be grandly held at Taipei Confucius Temple on September 28. This well-preserved national-level Three Libations Ceremony commemorates the profound influence of the Great Sage and Teacher Confucius on future generations, as well as his great spirit of “education for all without discrimination.” It attracts thousands of visitors each year to celebrate Confucius’s birthday. This year, overseas Confucian organizations such as Japan’s Institute of Moral Science, Osaka Lunyu Popularization Association, and Korea’s Bokhui Association will also attend the ceremony.
Located in Shandong, the Confucius Temple was historically where emperors and nobles offered sacrifices to Confucius. The architecture follows the layout of an imperial palace, with the Confucius Temple, Confucius Mansion, and Confucius Forest all situated in the same area. After the descendants of Confucius moved to Taiwan with the Nationalist government in 1949, the site was no longer owned by the Kong family. It has since been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This year’s commemorative items for the ceremony include beautifully designed card stickers and card holder sets featuring the kirin (Chinese unicorn) totem. Last year, Taipei City debuted admission tickets and kirin necklaces with a “kirin” as the main visual design for the first time, which were very well received. This year, new versions of the kirin admission tickets along with card stickers and holders will be released again. The kirin totem, depicted stepping on books, with a gourd, seal, and ruyi (scepter), symbolizes knowledge and courtesy, prosperity in wealth and rank, the revival of literary fortune, and all the best respectively.

The entry time for the September 27 rehearsal of the ceremony is from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM, and for the September 28 ceremony itself, it is from 5:30 AM to 6:00 AM. Taipei Confucius Temple will distribute 100 on-site admission tickets each to those waiting in line at the entrance of Hongmen. In addition, members of the public may also collect tickets in advance for free during office hours from September 14 to 19 (excluding September 17, which is a Monday when the temple is closed), limited to two per person, while supplies last.
