The Weekend Aroma of a Thousand-People Tea Gathering: Japanese and Korean Tea Masters Showcase Their Skills in Nantou

The Nantou World Tea Expo is about to enter its third year. This year’s event, themed “Life Aesthetics V: The Unfolding Chapters,” will be held from October 6 to 14 in Zhongxing New Village, featuring a nine-day series of activities. During the event, not only will there be the Bagua Tea Banquet centered around Nantou County’s eight major tea-growing regions, but also “Taiwan Tea: Told Through Storytelling and Music,” which combines storytelling art with the aroma of tea and music. Additionally, tea ceremony groups from Japan, Korea, and Taiwan will perform their respective tea cultures. On the afternoon of October 7, a thousand-people tea gathering will take place, with an estimated 3,000 people brewing and sipping tea together on Zhongxing Qingqing Grassland. Through the diverse styles of tea performances, participants can experience the essence of tea ceremony culture.

This year’s expo has planned a total of 12 major thematic activities. Among them, the World Tea Culture Exhibition and Taiwan Tea Performance invite tea masters from Japan, Korea, and Taiwan to set up national tea stations. With distinct tea schools, they will brew famous teas from various tea mountains. Tea masters will explain the philosophy behind brewing, demonstrate tea-making techniques, and offer tastings to visitors. Additionally, events such as the Children's Tea Art Competition, Golden Premium Tea Tasting, and the Taiwan Specialty Tea & Agricultural Products Exhibition are centered around tea literature and culture. These allow children to observe and learn tea brewing techniques, etiquette, and tea table arrangements through competitions. The event also gathers premium teas from across Taiwan, offering a taste of Taiwan’s most expensive competition-grade teas. Other activities include tea evaluation conferences, fun tea tastings, and tea evaluation games. The exhibition also invites tea farmers from Taiwan’s specialty tea regions to showcase their products, alongside agricultural specialties from various production areas in Nantou County. With a total of 200 booths, visitors can explore a wide range of teas including Hohuan Mountain High Mountain Tea, Dongding Oolong Tea, Shanlinxi Tea, Sun Moon Lake Black Tea, and Jiama Tea, providing tea enthusiasts with a comprehensive tasting experience of Taiwan’s finest teas.
