The Hengchun Music Festival Gathers International Bands to Perform Rare Folk Music

The “2012 Hengchun International Folk Music Festival” runs from today until November 3 in Hengchun and nearby towns including Pingtung City, Donggang, and Fangliao. The festival combines performances by local and international groups, showcasing a diverse range of styles and flavors. According to the Cultural Affairs Bureau, this year’s international participants include Iran’s Sabān Ensemble, Indonesia’s Samba Sunda, Finland’s Kantele Band, Xinjiang Travelers, and Australia’s Time to Ignite, among other international folk music groups. Local Taiwanese acts feature A-ma Chang Jih-kuei, The Mountain Wind Kids, The Eagles Indian Group, Chamaq Percussion Group, Shepherd Band, and Rose Yung & Lone Fur Band, among others, taking turns to perform on stage.

In addition to three township tour performances today (29th) at 7:30 PM at Fangliao Fishing Port and tomorrow (30th) at 4:30 PM at Guanshan Fudeyan, there will also be a themed night in Pingtung City on November 2 featuring folk music from different countries, allowing residents from other townships to enjoy unique folk tunes. On October 31, at Hengchun’s Dongmen Square, the event “Ode to Mountains and Seas $ Folk Music MV Show” will feature performers of all ages showcasing the spirit closest to folk singing and celebrating local scenery. This is paired with locally themed videos broadcast during the folk singing, connecting the event with local characteristics.

To attract visitors from all over to join the folk music celebration, special offers have been introduced, with over 60 shops providing benefits such as dining discounts, accommodation deals, and credit card rewards. Additionally, a Folk Music Check-in QR CODE system has been designed, combining major performance events and shop experiences across 17 check-in points. By scanning the QR CODE with a smartphone and entering their mobile number, participants can complete their check-in.
