Guitar and Percussion Quartet — Taipei Percussion Ensemble at Miaoli Zhongyang Hall on 11/11

The Taipei Percussion Ensemble will perform their 2012 annual concert "Guitar Rhythms, Percussive Madness" at 14:30 on November 11 at Zhongyang Hall in Miaoli County. This performance by the Taipei Percussion Ensemble not only takes inspiration from the guitar but also attempts to fuse classical guitar, two electric bass guitars, and percussion instruments to showcase the diverse styles and playing techniques of the guitar.andwill feature international classical guitar competition champions Liu ShixX and Su Mengfeng, who will perform a quartet specially commissioned by the ensemble from composer Huang Wan-zhen for percussionists and guitarists.

This commissioned quartet titled "Otherworldly — Recollections of a Bromo Volcano Journey," created by composer Huang Wan-zhen for two percussionists and two guitarists, recounts memories of an unforgettable trip, the "Bromo Volcano Journey." The piece uses the characteristics of percussion instruments and compositional techniques to depict vast and mysterious natural landscapes such as "Starry Sky · Desert" and "Sunrise · Sea of Clouds."with vibrant and lively rhythms full of color.

Additionally, regarding minimalist master Steve Reich's piece "Electric Counterpoint," the ensemble experiments with blending classical guitar, two electric bass guitars, and percussion instruments. By juxtaposing the contrasting nature of striking and plucking, they explore a drifting and meditative sense of mystery within the realm of extreme music. They also expand the possibilities of percussion performance development through collaboration with the guitar, creating an infinite soundscape for musical enjoyment.
