Winter vacation and Spring Festival outbound travel: Japan is hot, Thailand is making a comeback

As the Lunar New Year holiday nears, people are beginning to plan their overseas getaways to take full advantage of the rare nine-day vacation. Domestic travel agencies say that around 30% of travel packages for the Spring Festival and winter break have been sold so far, with destinations such as Tokyo, Osaka, and Hokkaido in Japan being the most popular, having sold over 50%. The number of travelers planning to visit Thailand has also increased compared to previous years.

With the peak travel season approaching, various travel agencies are rolling out promotional deals to boost sales. Chan Hsing Travel is offering limited-time membership discounts from now until November 12. In addition to ROC passport renewal endorsements at half price (NT$250), Hong Kong 3-day free and easy tours start from NT$8,888 (tax included), while Japan’s Okinawa, Singapore 4-day free and easy trips, and Korea ski 5-day group tours are all under NT$10,000. Trips to Tokyo and Kyushu in Japan are available for less than NT$20,000, and there’s even a Benelux 8-day tour starting from just NT$39,900 (tax included). Thanks to the U.S. visa waiver effect, the overall U.S. travel market is expected to see a boost. Chan Hsing Travel also forecasts a 3–5x increase in Taiwanese travel to the U.S., and has launched a great-value Western U.S. 8-day tour starting from NT$45,900 (tax included).

Additionally, among the New Year holiday promotional packages, Japan—ranking third in outbound travel destinations—offers a Hokkaido aurora and icebreaker 5-day tour starting from NT$50,900 (tax included), a Korea ski trip + JUMP show 5-day tour and a Thailand villa 5-day tour both starting from NT$36,500 and NT$19,999 (tax included), respectively. Meanwhile, a Hong Kong free and easy 3-day trip with a view of the Lunar New Year’s Second Day fireworks is available from NT$15,999 (tax included).
