Kaohsiung World Family Creative Market: Exotic Flavors Waft Through Sinyi Pier

Known for its warm sunshine and harbor charm, Kaohsiung is hosting the Winter Exotic Culture and Tourism Season at Sinyi Pier from now until January 31, 2013. During this three-month event, every Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday will feature the World Family Creative Market, where expatriates living in Taiwan offer handmade bread made with natural German ingredients, Polish handmade cakes, Canadian handmade ice cream with all-natural ingredients, American-style coffee drinks, Russian hand-painted T-shirts, indigenous handmade dyed fabrics, creative handicrafts, Japanese-style sushi and oden, and other international foods and fashion items. On the evening of December 31 at 21:00, there will also be the Sinyi Harbor New Year’s Eve Music Festival, allowing the public to enjoy the harbor city’s exotic atmosphere.

This event will also feature various types of musical performances, including shows by domestic and international bands as well as creative singers. On Friday nights and weekend holidays, a romantic extravaganza combining waterfront scenery and exotic flair will set a beautiful and melodious tone for Sinyi Pier. In addition, during the event period, anyone who makes any purchase at the World Family Creative Market can receive a raffle ticket for the “Colorful Kaohsiung – Sinyi Harbor Night Cruise Gastronomic Feast.” There are 200 prizes available, which will be drawn at the Sinyi Harbor New Year’s Eve Tourism Music Festival on December 31. The results will be announced on January 5, 2013, both at the Sinyi Pier event site and on the Facebook page of “PIER 22 Market Place Sinyi Pier.”

 

Expatriates participating in the World Family Creative Market as volunteers said that although they may not be the most professional, the food and clothing they offer are guaranteed to be the most authentic representations of their hometowns, serving as a medium for international tourism and cultural exchange. This event has also partnered with high schools and middle schools in the Kaohsiung area to recruit young international cultural exchange volunteers for the World Family Holiday Creative Market, helping to interpret for the public and non-Chinese-speaking foreigners on-site.
