One hundred Doraemons descend on Taipei to recreate classic comic scenes on Dec. 29

During the Lunar New Year and winter vacation, besides fulfilling your dream of traveling abroad, you can also visit the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei to see Doraemon in person and realize your dreams of visiting Nobita’s room and riding the time machine. The “Look, Doraemon is here – 100th Anniversary Commemorative Exhibition Before Its Birth,” which caused a craze in Hong Kong, will be held from Dec. 29 to April 7, 2013. In addition to 100 Doraemons holding various props, this exhibition features a Taiwanese-exclusive recreation of cartoon street scenes and original manga drafts for the public to enjoy. Moreover, advance ticket sales are available at 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, OK Mart, Hi-Life convenience stores, and Books.com.tw from now until Dec. 28, with a discounted price of NT$150 per ticket.

The exhibition not only includes 100 large 1:1 models of Doraemon holding various props, but also recreates three classic scenes: Doraemon’s farewell night with Nobita, the eve of Nobita and Shizuka’s wedding, and Nobita’s nostalgic memories of his grandmother. Additionally, there are Taiwan-exclusive contents such as the recreation of the street scenes where Nobita, Shizuka, and Gian live, the chance to enter the drawer of Nobita’s room, and even listen to Gian’s park concert. Moreover, Doraemon’s thousands of secret gadgets are the most attractive and imaginative part. A poll conducted by Japan’s Asahi Shimbun found that the top five most popular gadgets are the Anywhere Door, the Time Machine, the Bamboo-Copter, the Time Cloth, and the Memory Bread. This exhibition also adds manga drafts and an interactive secret gadget area for visitors to explore and experience.

The manga “Doraemon,” created by Japanese mangaka Fujiko F. Fujio, has been published for over 40 years since its debut in 1970. The Doraemon TV animation began airing in 1973, and animated films were released starting in 1980. Doraemon is also extremely popular outside Japan, with official publications in Mainland China, South Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Cyprus, Italy, Spain, and more. The French version was launched in 2006.

 

In 1996, Fujiko F. Fujio passed away, and his last wish was “to unify the name to the Japanese pronunciation across Asia.” Since 1997, the Chinese edition of the manga published in Taiwan has officially changed from the widely known “Xiaodingdang” (Little Bell) to “Doraemon.”
