New Year’s Eve meets 4-day holiday break as businesses launch NT$888 packages to catch the first sunrise

December is just around the corner, and before we know it, the end-of-year season for welcoming the New Year has arrived. Some travel operators have already launched their most exciting domestic New Year’s Eve and sunrise-watching tour packages. Currently, overall sales are outpacing the same period last year and are expected to grow by about 20%. Operators noted that this year, locals have a four-day holiday for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, which is increasing the willingness of travelers to stay overnight and extend their trips within Taiwan. For example, family-favorite options like an overnight stay at the Kenting National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium or watching the sunrise at the Shouhaian Grassland and coastline along the Alishan Forest Recreation Area Trail in Taitung sold out in less than a week after going on sale.

According to statistics from Lion Travel so far, the most popular New Year’s sunrise tour this year is still “Ali Mountain Night Without Sleep,” which tops the list. The Yida New Year’s Eve Fireworks come in second place, and Hehuan Mountain ranks third. In addition, spots like Cihen Lake in Taipingshan, Eastern and Northern Taiwan’s Hualien, and Fulong in Northern Taiwan are also extremely popular, receiving overwhelming interest. Lion Travel Deputy Manager You Guozhen stated that Ali Mountain has the highest railway station in Taiwan and is one of the best spots to watch the New Year’s sunrise. Coupled with its relatively low hiking difficulty and appealing travel experience, it has always been a favorite among Taiwanese tourists.
