In the festive month of December, the Taichung City Government’s Cultural Affairs Bureau will also host the free “2012 Happy Taichung Christmas Concert” from 18:30 to 21:30 on December 22 at the Fulfillment Amphitheater. The event will feature performances by local and international artists and musicians, including Huang Yuxiang, the Symphony Orchestra and Choir of Catholic Xavier Girls’ High School, South African reggae band Wailing Soul, and Japan’s Kikuta Blues Band, offering a veritable feast of Christmas music. On the day of the event, there will also be a special drive to collect loving Christmas gift boxes, inviting the public to donate wrapped items such as books and stationery for donation to rural schools and social welfare institutions.

The lineup for this event includes outstanding groups and celebrities such as the Black Glasses Visually Impaired Orchestra, the Taichung College & University Wind Orchestra, the Taichung Classical Stars Ensemble, pop singer Tao Yanlin (Electric Goddess), the South American Roberto Latin Band, German violinist Andreas, American rock violinist Jamii, Asian coloratura soprano Fu Mengqian, and the Diplomatic Rock Band. In support of green environmentalism, the concert will also feature a giveaway of 1,000 small green potted plants. Attendees who come to enjoy the wonderful Christmas music performance at Fulfillment Amphitheater, fill out an event questionnaire, or check in on-site, will have a chance to receive one of these lovely green potted plants.
Additionally, on the day of the event, amidst the blessings of Christmas carols, a public Christmas gift box collection campaign will also be held. The public is encouraged to simply wrap items such as stationery, books, and toys and deliver them to the service desk at Fulfillment Amphitheater. After the concert, the Cultural Affairs Bureau will transport the donations via shuttle to social welfare institutions including Lishan Junior and Senior High School, Pingdeng Elementary School, Taichung Guangyin Children’s Home, the Qili Children and Youth Home affiliated with the Zhang Xiuju Foundation, and the privately-run Ganning Social Welfare Charity Foundation in Taichung. The first 1,000 donors will receive a small green plant on the spot. The collection period will be from 18:00 to 22:00.
