China Airlines, China Southern, China Eastern, and Xiamen Airlines form alliance for flexible return flight options

The SkyTeam members in Greater China — China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, and China Airlines — officially announced today (the 3rd) the launch of the “Greater China Fly Together” program. By sharing member resources, they aim to jointly establish premium services exclusively for members across Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Passengers holding membership cards from any of the four airlines will enjoy the benefits of all four, as “four cards become one, and the perks of four airlines are consolidated into one,” providing more valuable, convenient, and diverse membership benefits.

The “Greater China Fly Together” program will offer passengers the tangible benefit of one card with the value of four. Through the extensive flight networks and schedules of the four airlines, the “shared flight number return flight interchange” service is introduced. Passengers holding tickets for scheduled flights on any of the four airlines can, according to their ticket terms, change their return flights and enjoy the convenience of shared flight numbers, mutual flight use, and flexible flight transfers, making travel between the two sides of the Strait more convenient.

 

In addition, the mutual benefits that members of the four airlines can enjoy include: mileage accumulation and redemption for free tickets; elite/super elite members receive privileges such as priority booking, airport check-in, customs and boarding procedures, and priority luggage collection upon arrival, as well as access to 31 self-operated airport lounges across Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Super elite members also exclusively enjoy priority services such as using the self-operated airport lounges of China Southern, China Eastern, and Xiamen Airlines in major mainland cities when flying economy class on domestic routes within Mainland China.

The “Greater China Fly Together” program also introduces the “Fly Together Premium Package” for new members. During the promotional period from January 3 to March 31, 2013, new members who join the frequent flyer programs of any of the four airlines — China Southern, China Eastern, Xiamen Airlines, or China Airlines — will automatically become members of the “Greater China Fly Together” program and receive a bonus of 888 miles/kilometers/points. Additionally, both new and existing members who purchase tickets and fly on routes across Mainland China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong can earn another 888 miles/kilometers/points. Those who purchase and fly on two cross-Strait flights operated by the four airlines (Taiwan–Mainland China / Taiwan–Hong Kong / Mainland China–Hong Kong) during this period, and present entry/exit stamps or boarding passes from their Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents, Home Return Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents, or Taiwan Compatriot Entry Permit, totaling 18/28 (inclusive) or more, will be eligible for upgraded privileges to elite/super elite membership. Each airline will recruit a limited number of 888 members for these tiers.
