New Year’s hottest activity: Ride a double-decker sightseeing bus to explore Taipei and Kaohsiung & enjoy love river fireworks

Haven’t planned where to go during the Spring Festival holiday yet? The newly launched open-top double-decker buses in Kaohsiung and the double-decker sightseeing buses in Taipei will operate as usual during the break. Starting January 31, Kaohsiung will also offer an exclusive, limited-edition love river fireworks tour bus. In Taipei, there’s a limited-time deal of “buy one, get one free for two people,” and on New Year’s Eve and Lunar New Year’s Day, each passenger will receive a miniature model of the bus.

Li Zongxi, General Manager of Kaohsiung Bus, which operates the open-top double-decker buses, said that starting January 31, they will launch the only exclusive and limited-edition romantic fireworks tour bus in Taiwan. The bus departs from Dream Mall promptly at 6:30 PM daily and is expected to arrive at the dedicated fireworks viewing spot along the Love River by around 6:50 PM, offering the best elevated, up-close view of the fireworks show. From Lunar New Year’s Day through the Lantern Festival, passengers who purchase tickets to ride the Kaohsiung open-top double-decker bus can also receive a cute mini lantern shaped like the bus—limited to 100 per day, while supplies last.

During the Lunar New Year period, the Taipei double-decker sightseeing bus will be suspended in the afternoon of New Year’s Eve (January 27) and the morning of Lunar New Year’s Day (January 28), but will operate normally at other times. The “buy one, get one free for two people” deal available at Taipei Main Station M4 exit will continue. The 4-hour ticket, originally priced at NT$300 and allowing unlimited boarding and alighting, is available for just NT$150 per person for two travelers, letting you rediscover Taipei.

The route is divided into Red and Blue lines, both starting from Taipei Main Station. After passing by historic city gates such as Beimen, Ximen, and Jingfu Gate in the old city area, the Blue Line continues along Zhongshan North Road to the National Palace Museum, passing by Taipei Light House, Taipei Expo Park, the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, Taipei Story House, and the Shilin Official Residence. The Red Line heads along Xinyi Road to Taipei 101, then returns via Zhongxiao East Road, passing popular attractions such as the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Taipei 101, the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Huashan 1914 Creative Park, and Songshan Cultural and Creative Park.
