The world’s tallest hotel opens, reshaping Dubai’s skyline

Ever since the Burj Khalifa surpassed Taipei 101 as the world’s tallest building, this race has seemed like an endless competition. Just last year, The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong opened, occupying floors 102 to 118 of the International Commerce Centre, claiming the title of the world’s tallest hotel. Then, in December 2012, the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in Dubai took the crown as the world’s tallest hotel in every sense, with an entire tower dedicated to the hotel.

This hotel consists of two high-rise towers, each 72 stories tall, resembling Dubai’s twin skyscrapers from afar. Standing at 354.7 meters, the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel is just 25 meters shorter than the Empire State Building in New York. The hotel is opening in two phases; the first tower features 807 guest rooms, nine restaurants — among them, only the 24-hour French restaurant La Farine and the casual eatery The Lounge, along with the Prime68 steakhouse on the 68th floor, are currently open. The second tower and remaining restaurants are set to be completed by February 2013, bringing the total to 1,608 rooms. Each guest room will boast spacious bedrooms and bathrooms with large floor-to-ceiling windows offering breathtaking views of the luxurious desert city.
