It's time to admire the flower sea in Hengchun, Pingtung during the Spring Festival

Recently, flower news has been spreading from south to north in Pingtung County. There are seas of cosmos flowers in Manzhou Township, Xinpi Township, and Wanluan Township, while cherry blossoms are blooming one after another in the mountainous areas of Wutai and Majia. Among them, near Lide Bridge in Manzhou Township, the farmlands of Manzhou Village and Lide Village, located between Manzhou Village and Lide Village, utilize the rest period after the harvest of forage grass to plant cosmos, marigold, and sunflowers, covering an area of nearly 30 hectares. This is the earliest blooming flower sea of spring and has become a must-visit attraction for travelers visiting Kenting in winter. Zhuang Zhichang, head of the Agricultural Tourism Section of Manzhou Township Office, said that this year’s flowering season is about 10 days earlier than in previous years. Recently, heavy rain has damaged the flowers, affecting the flower sea landscape. Visitors should hurry to enjoy the flowers, and the township office plans to re-sow seeds after the Lunar New Year. Another beautiful flower sea will appear during the Flying Fish Festival in May this year.

Xinpi Township’s comprehensive leisure park located in Jihu Village has been developing flower seas in recent years. From 0.4 hectares in the first year, it has now reached 1.2 hectares in its third year. Zhou Jinshan, head of the Agriculture Section of Xinpi Township Office, mentioned that to match the “flower sea” landscape, the 0.8-hectare cosmos flower field is specially designed in wave shapes, showcasing layers of flower waves in white, red, yellow, and pink, which are very beautiful. Recently, many people have come to admire the flowers. Zhou Jinshan estimates that the cosmos flowering period lasts about a month, and if the weather cools down, it can last even longer. In addition, another 0.4-hectare sunflower field is about to enter its blooming period, so the flower viewing season is expected to continue until the Lunar New Year.

In Wanluan Township, along the road from Baozhong Road toward Jiazuo Village, you can see a large expanse of cosmos flowers next to the Jiazuo Fire Station. This flower sea covers an area of nearly 2 hectares and was jointly planted and irrigated by the township office and teachers and students of Jiazuo Elementary School. It is now gradually blooming and is expected to last until the Lunar New Year. In Wutai Township, cherry blossoms usually bloom around the Lunar New Year, but some blossoms were seen as early as November last year. Since the cherry blossoms in Wutai are planted along Provincial Highway 24, they are now budding one after another along the highway, with some still in bud. This has already attracted many tourists to come up the mountain to admire the flowers. The Wutai tribal area plans to hold market activities and package tours during the Spring Festival. However, Provincial Highway 24 still has some sections under repair after Typhoon Morakot, so visitors should check the traffic conditions before heading up the mountain. The mountainous areas of Majia Township grow cherry blossoms and peach blossoms, which gradually enter their blooming seasons during this time of year. First come the cherry blossoms, followed by peach blossoms in early February. While enjoying the flowers over a thousand meters above sea level, you can also sip on coffee grown by local villagers, and sometimes you can even see sea of clouds rising from the valley, as if you are in a paradise. Lin Jinhui, head of the Agricultural Tourism Section of Majia Township Office, said that the township office, in cooperation with the Wada Tribe Association of Majia Village, will hold a “Peach Blossom Paradise Cycling, Hiking, and Flower Viewing Event” on February 14.
