Taipei City has launched the “Taipei New Year Shopping Month” from now until February 17. Department stores such as SOGO, Far Eastern Department Store, ATT4fun, and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi are offering winter discounts starting from 50% off, while Jingua is starting from 70% off. Shin Kong Mitsukoshi’s New Year lucky bags include top prizes such as Star Cruises free travel packages and accommodation vouchers for Lihpao Resort Beitou. New Taipei City — Collect Stamps at Museums for Big Prizes

During the Lunar New Year holiday, the Chu Wei-Ying Art Museum in Jinshan, the Li Tien-lu Puppet Theatre Museum in Sanzhi, and the Hsinpingxi Coal Mine Museum in Pingxi will open on the first day of the Lunar New Year (February 10). Meanwhile, museums under New Taipei City’s Cultural Affairs Bureau, including the 13th Shop Museum, Gold Museum, Tamsui Historic Museum, Yingge Ceramics Museum, National Heritage Site Lin Ben Yuan Family Mansion, Pinglin Tea Museum, and Fuzhong 15 – New Taipei Animation Story Museum, will only close on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, reopening on February 11 (the second day of the Lunar New Year). Additionally, the Xindian History Museum, Xinzhuang Arts and Culture Center, and World Religion Museum will open on February 13 (the fourth day of the Lunar New Year). From February 10 to 17, the public can collect stamp booklets at 20 public and private museums in New Taipei City. Taichung City — International Traditional Arts Showdown

The Taichung City Cultural Affairs Bureau has planned a series of traditional arts spring outings from February 12 to 15, connecting the four major centers of Taichung City and the Mountain-Sea-Tun area. The program features 32 performances, including traditional art showdowns between international troupes from Japan, Bolivia, Africa, and Mexico and local groups.

On February 12, the opening performance at the Harbor Arts Center will feature the Four-Colored Lion Dance and celebratory dance drama by the Weijin Dragon and Lion Martial Arts War Drum Troupe. On February 13, the Ming Hwa Yuan Day Troupe, led by Chen Sheng-Zai, the “King of Clowns” in the Taiwanese opera world, will perform at the Tuen District Arts and Culture Center. On Valentine’s Day (February 14), the romantic One Band Play Band will take the stage at the Dazhong Cultural Center, where Eastern festivity meets Western romance. The festival will conclude on February 15 with a grand finale featuring the well-known rock Chinese orchestra “Tsai Feng Yue Fang” and the “Taichung Sheng Wuzhou Puppet Troupe” performing at the Huludun Cultural Center. Tainan City — Hot Air Balloon tethered Flight Experience

From now until February 17, Tainan is hosting the “2013 Tainan Winter Hot Air Balloon Carnival” series of tethered balloon flight experiences at Zouma Lai Farm. This event provides a major tourist attraction for the winter holiday and Lunar New Year period. Soaring above Zouma Lai in a hot air balloon offers breathtaking views of the unique lunar-like white chalk terrain. The popular tethered balloon rides last 5 minutes each and cost NT$500 per person, with three daily sessions at 7:00–9:00, 11:00–12:30, and 17:30–19:30 (only the morning session is available on February 9). Kaohsiung City — One-Day City Tours

The Kaohsiung City Tourism Bureau has launched the NT$399 “Explore Kaohsiung City Tour,” featuring three one-day themed routes: “Marine Culture,” “Wetland Ecology,” and “Flower Blossom World.” Tours require a minimum of 20 participants and include visits to the Qianzhen Fishing Port, an experience at a flying fish roe factory, a nature tour at the Native Plant Garden, cultural experiences at the Pier-2 Art Center, Meinong Folk Village, and the Hakka Cultural Museum. Starting February 16, travelers in smaller groups or families can also join half-day tours organized by the Kaohsiung City Tour Guide Association. These include visits to world-class glass art installations such as Narcissus Shah’s “Dome of Light” public art piece, and the century-old Takao Railway Station. Pingtung County — Welcome the New Year with Flower Fields

In Pingtung County, vast fields of cosmos flowers bloom in Manzhou Township, Xinxibei Township, and Wanluan Township, while cherry blossoms gradually appear in the mountainous areas of Wutai and Majia. Among them, the flower fields in Manzhou Village and Lide Village in Manzhou Township, covering nearly 30 hectares with cosmos, marigold, and sunflower blooms, are among the earliest harbingers of spring. In Xinxibei Township, the 1.2-hectare flower field includes a 0.8-hectare wave-shaped cosmos field showcasing layers of colorful blooms in white, red, yellow, and pink. In Wanluan Township, a 2-hectare cosmos field near the Jiazu Fire Station is expected to remain in bloom through the Lunar New Year.

Cherry blossoms along Taiwan Route 24 in Wutai Township have begun to bloom, attracting many visitors. The Wutai Tribe plans to host market events and packaged tours during the Spring Festival. The mountainous areas of Majia Township are planted with cherry and peach blossoms, which typically begin blooming around this time—with cherry blossoms first, followed by peach blossoms in early February. The Majia Township Office has also partnered with the Wada Tribe Association of Majia Village to hold the “Peach Blossom Paradise Cycling, Hiking & Flower Viewing Event” on February 14. Taitung County — Explore by Bus and Bike

During the Lunar New Year, Taitung County Government is offering a series of “Eight Blessings” promotions. Among them, the Lunar New Year Tourist Shuttle Service includes five themed routes from February 10 to 15: “Scenic Mountain and Sea Tour of Taitung,” “Classic Rural Tour of Longtian,” “Scenic Town Loop Drive in Guanshan,” “Rice Paddy Tour in Chishang,” and “Azure Sea and Sky Tour in Chenggong.” These routes combine buses and bikes to connect various attractions, with two guaranteed departures daily at NT$555 per person, allowing visitors to explore Taitung at a leisurely pace. The “New Year Joy Has Arrived” sharing campaign runs from February 10 to 17.
