Europe’s Highest Suspension Bridge: The Titlis Cliff Walk Challenges Travelers’ Limits

Those who want to test their courage should definitely try the Swiss Titlis Cliff Walk, which was completed in mid-December last year. This 100-meter-long walkway in Switzerland hangs 3,000 meters above sea level, is only 0.9 meters wide, and will make your palms sweat with its extreme scare factor.

This current highest suspension bridge in Europe was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Engelberg–Erschnialp cable car in Switzerland, which first opened back in 1913. With the completion of the Titlis Cliff Walk, it has officially surpassed Switzerland’s Salbit Bridge to claim the title of Europe’s highest suspension bridge.

 

Since the opening of this cable car, Engelberg’s popularity has soared. Already a top destination for skiing and snowboarding, Engelberg also features a glacier park and glacier cave. To reach the summit of Mount Titlis, you must start at the cable car base in Engelberg and take three separate sections — the Engelberg–Trübsee, Trübsee–Stand, and Stand–Titlis cable cars — to finally see the snow-capped peak of Mount Titlis. With the opening of this terrifying suspension bridge, thrill-seekers now have another heart-pounding challenge to conquer.
