National park floral lanterns, cherry blossoms, and Formosan landlocked salmon shine at Snow Mountain

The Hsinchu County Taiwan Lantern Festival has kicked off enthusiastically and will run until March 10. This year, the Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters has been invited to participate in the lantern festival. At the “Shei-Pa Splendor Lantern Area” planned by the park, the resources and ecological beauty of the park are presented through lantern art. In addition to the main lantern displays of the Great and Small Baxian Mountains, visitors can also admire rare animals such as the Formosan landlocked salmon and the Formosan black bear. This lantern area is also the first of its kind among Taiwan’s national parks.

The jurisdiction of Shei-Pa National Park covers Wufeng Township and Jianshi Township in Hsinchu County. To coincide with the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival in Hsinchu County, the park combined ecological exhibits with traditional folk festivities. Well-known precious and rare animals within the Shei-Pa area — such as the Formosan landlocked salmon, the Formosan salamander, the Formosan black bear, the Formosan sika deer, the mandarin duck, the Taiwan blue magpie, the crested goshawk, and the broad-tailed swallowtail — are all brought to life through traditional lantern forms.

The Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters’ Facebook fan page “Reaching New Heights: The Beauty of Shei-Pa” is also running a campaign to give away mysterious small gifts. From 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM during the 2013 Taiwan Lantern Festival exhibition period, visitors at the Shei-Pa Splendor Lantern Area can log in to Facebook via mobile device, like and join the Shei-Pa fan page, or check in at the “Shei-Pa Splendor Lantern Area” as a landmark and upload on-site photos. Once verified by Shei-Pa staff on-site, they can receive a mysterious small gift.
