Visit Sanyi to see wood carvings and discover a new perspective that defies tradition

The Sanyi Wood Sculpture Museum is hosting the “Sanyi Wood Carving Association Members’ Joint Exhibition” from now until April 21, 102 (2013), on the first basement level of Building One. The exhibition showcases 66 pieces that make use of the natural patterns and textures of cypress wood for creative expression. Through the members’ exquisite carving techniques, the works primarily feature mixed media, dragons, landscapes, animals, figures, and traditional deity series, while also retaining a traditional realistic style. The exhibition aims to inspire the public’s appreciation for traditional wood carving.

The Sanyi Wood Carving Association Members’ Joint Exhibition aims to motivate members’ creative drive and serves as a showcase of the association’s collective achievements over the past year. Since 2006, the association has established connections and engaged with wood carving arts and crafts associations in Japan, the UK, and mainland China, while also conducting international and cross-strait academic discussions on wood carving. It has even exhibited in mainland China to promote Sanyi wood carving globally. Its steps toward internationalization have become increasingly solid and stable. Visitors can glimpse the new direction that Sanyi wood carving creators are taking—transitioning from tradition to innovation—and see the fresh face this transition has revealed.
