Registration for the Golden Mine Eco-Wellness Hike is now open

Organized by the Golden Volunteers of the New Taipei City Gold Museum, the “2013 Mines Eco-Wellness Cultural Hike” will host activities on two routes across nine sessions from March to November. The first session begins on March 30, with registration now open. The hike not only allows participants to learn about the bustling mountain town of the past through guided tours, but also invites them to take part in mountain-cleaning activities to restore the mine’s pristine beauty.

The “2013 Mines Eco-Wellness Cultural Hike” will hold nine sessions between March and November, one per month on Saturdays. The specific dates are March 30, April 27, May 25, June 29, July 27, August 31, September 28, October 26, and November 30.

 

Registration for each session opens 45 days before the event date and closes seven days prior. Each session has a limit of 20 participants and will be closed once full. The participation fee is NT$200 per person, covering a miner’s lunchbox, a tour of Pit No. 5, and insurance. Successful registrants should check in at the Gold Museum Visitor Service Center at 9:30 a.m. on the day of the event, with the hike and cleanup starting at 10:00 a.m. The entire walk and guided tour will take approximately 2 to 2.5 hours.

 

The routes for the first four sessions are: “Museum Visitor Center → Sanmao’s Residence → Octagonal Pavilion & Copper Processing Plant → Jinqi Temple → Water Ditch Bridge → Jinfu Temple → Guashan Elementary School → International Peace Memorial Park → Quanjidian → Qitang Old Street → Former Miners’ Hospital Site → Museum.” The routes for the last five sessions are: “Museum Visitor Center → Shiyi Road → Light Railway Path → Quanjidian Bridge → Copper Settling Pond Office → Parking Lot & Weighbridge Entrance → Changren Third & Fourth Pits Viewpoint → Sky Car Relic Site → Bao Shi Shan (Reporting Time Mountain) → Quanjidian → International Peace Memorial Park → Qitang Old Street → Former Miners’ Hospital Site → Museum.” For more details, visit the official website: www.gep.ntpc.gov.tw.
