Ride a Bike Around Taiwan and Share Your Travelogue to Win Prizes

The Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, in cooperation with overseas offices, cycling and airline industry partners, has launched a one-year online campaign titled “Bike Around Taiwan” from now until March 31, 2014. The campaign compiles creative cycling routes and information on bike paths throughout Taiwan, providing references for both domestic and international cyclists. It also offers discounts on bike rentals and purchases, as well as a group ride platform. Both local and foreign cyclists are welcome to experience the “Cycling Wonders of Taiwan” and can receive event gifts. Sharing your travelogue also enters you into a lucky draw.

This campaign’s website is available in three languages: Chinese, English, and Japanese. Based on riding intensity, it recommends several cycling routes for participants, including the more challenging island-loop route, the Sun Moon Lake cycling path and surrounding routes — recognized by CNNGO as one of the world’s top ten most beautiful rides, the challenging climb from sea level to 3,275 meters at Wuling in Taroko, the cycling route in Penghu — rated by renowned travel site Lonely Planet as one of the world’s top ten most beautiful islands, and the Pearl Route that connects indigenous villages in Eastern and Hualien Taiwan.

 

By joining the campaign website and becoming a member, participants who join and complete a group ride can receive an event gift: a prepaid EasyCard. Those who upload and share their travelogues can get an exclusive bike bandana. Renting a bike at designated shops comes with a 12% discount, and those satisfied with the trial ride can enjoy a 10% discount when purchasing a bike. Foreign travelers who purchase a bike for NT$3,000 or more can also directly apply for a tax refund at the shop. In addition, members who upload their travelogues to the campaign website can not only share their Taiwan cycling experiences with fellow biking enthusiasts but also enter to win accommodation vouchers and Taiwan-exclusive bikes.
