Art, Creativity & Food Festival — Kaohsiung’s “Absolutely Foodie” Special Exhibition

“Absolutely Foodie — The Artists’ Delicious Party” runs from now until April 28 at Building B8, Penglai Warehouse in Pier-2 Art Center, offering a feast for the eyes and soul. It looks at food, which is inseparably linked to our lives, through the eyes of artists. The exhibition aims not only to serve up a delicious spread but also to create more possibilities for the enjoyment of food and dining, awakening everyone’s longing for good food and encouraging a re-examination of the dining environment around us and the meaning of “eating.” Liu Xiumei, Deputy Director of the Kaohsiung City Bureau of Cultural Affairs, said that she hopes this exhibition will allow people to feel the happiness of returning to simplicity. A picnic, which is usually considered difficult to carry out, becomes simple and convenient in Pier-2 Art Center. She also hopes that everyone will treat Pier-2 as their own backyard, bringing just a simple picnic mat and some light snacks to enjoy the beauty of spring here.

The curator of this exhibition, Ms. Ding Xinyu, is a selected participant of the 11th Cultural and Creative Design Talent Return Program organized by the Kaohsiung City Government Bureau of Cultural Affairs. With her romantic spirit and passion for food, she extends these values to various aspects of life and art, courageously experimenting with diverse themes and creative methods. The layout of the exhibition space is full of clever touches, combining various elements related to food, giving visitors the chance to experience a whimsical little journey of culinary delights. Upon entering the exhibition, you’ll see a cute wooden mini kitchen that evokes the warmth of being at home. In the blink of an eye, you’ll stroll past a European-style market admiring poetic arrangements of fruits and vegetables, or turn a corner to a grassy field where you can daydream about a carefree picnic. Then, join the artists for their delicious party and see how they use paintings to tell a story about “food.” Finally, get a sweet treat from master chefs of Eastern and Western cuisines, and with a heart full of contentment, browse the little book house. This completes the rich and fulfilling journey.

 

Every Saturday from 3:00 to 4:00 PM, the organizers will invite different lifestyle artists and food creators to the site to share with the public and visitors how to discover the art of eating and how food can make life better. In addition, from March 23 to April 28, every Saturday and Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM under the big banyan tree in the Penglai Warehouse complex, everyone is invited to come to Pier-2 for the picnic market. Enjoy the spring sunshine and breeze in the afternoon, savor small snacks, and chat and laugh with family and friends, making it easy to enjoy the fun of a picnic even in the busy urban life.
