Hallstatt may be quite unfamiliar to many people in our country, but upon seeing photos, many react with, “Oh, it’s this place!” Colorful little houses stand among the mountains, reflected in the clear lake—this image paints the impression many have of Hallstatt. Located in Austria, the lakeside town has gained fame for its picturesque scenery while still retaining an original, rustic charm. The breathtaking beauty has earned it the title of "the most beautiful town in the world," attracting travelers from all over the globe.

The name “Hall” comes from the Celtic word for “salt,” and “statt” is German for “town,” together forming the name of this salt town, Hallstatt. Salt mining has been carried out here since 1400 BC, and it is home to the world’s oldest salt mine. In 1997, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The town is quite compact. Walking along the lakeshore, you can explore the downtown area in about half an hour. The colorful houses, with ivy climbing up their walls and each featuring its own distinctive décor, resemble the prototype of a fairytale dream.

Hallstatt has distinct seasons, each offering a different charm, like a graceful and ever-changing maiden. In spring, after the snow melts, the air carries a touch of freshness; summer is peak season, with lush greenery surrounding the entire town, brimming with vitality; in autumn, the tree-tops on the mountains turn golden, creating a romantic atmosphere; and in winter, thick snow covers the rooftops, making it feel like you’re in a fairyland, with an indescribable sense of ethereal beauty.
