From late April to September each year is the peak tourist season for Guishan Island. Riding the waves to explore Guishan Island and witnessing the spectacular sight of whales and dolphins leaping in the sea has become a popular domestic maritime trip. From now until May 26, the "2013 Whale Spectacular Cruise" event, planned by the Northeast Coast & Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Administration of the Tourism Bureau, Yilan County Government, Yilan County Whale Watching Promotion Association, and Toucheng District Fishermen's Association, not only offers a three-in-one package (whale watching, island circumnavigation, and island landing) at a discounted price of NT$1,200, and a two-in-one package (whale watching and circumnavigating Guishan Island) at NT$700, but also provides special deals during the event period. In addition to visitors whose names contain any character from the phrase "Guishan Island Whale Spectacular Cruise" being eligible for an additional half-price discount, the event is also recruiting travelers with the characters "Turtle" (龟) or "Whale" (鲸) in their names to enjoy the whale-watching journey for free.

Besides enjoying the companionship of whales and dolphins, Guishan Island’s unique volcanic rock geology and turtle-like shape allow visitors to observe various aspects of the island during the approximately half-hour circumnavigation, including four of the famous Eight Views of Guishan: Turtle Rock, Turtle Head Rock, Turtle Belly Cave, and Turtle Tail Rock, as well as the Five Color Rock.

For those planning to land on the island, after disembarking, you can walk along the 650-meter-long lakeside trail to enjoy the island’s rich natural ecology, such as Taiwan lily, Hypericum formosanum, Diospyros eriantha, wild fan palms, and various birds and butterflies. The loop takes about 40 minutes, after which you can visit nearby military tunnels and the Human Ecology & Geological Exhibition Hall. At the end of the Diospyros eriantha Trail, which connects to the lakeside trail, there is an observation platform offering a panoramic view of Guishan’s tail.

Additionally, this year’s event also features a series of themed guided tours and commentary, including "Cultural Guishan Isle," "Conservation of Guishan Isle," and "Whales & Dolphins of Guishan Isle," allowing whale watchers to gain more insights. Liu Shih-ming, deputy director of the Northeast Coast & Yilan Scenic Area, further noted that the Northeast Coast offers a diverse range of tourism and recreational resources. In addition to whale and dolphin watching, visitors can also surf, sail, swim, snorkel, hike, cycle, and enjoy sand sculpture activities—each perfectly suited for both domestic and international tourists to experience.
