The first-ever joint performance by Mayday and Sodagreen at the Sea Music Festival

Northern Taiwan’s premier music event — the New Taipei City Gongliao International Marine Music Festival — is set to take place from July 10 to 14. This year not only marks the first time in 14 years that an official microfilm has been released, but also the historic first time that both Mayday and Sodagreen, two of the biggest music acts, will take the festival’s main stage, performing on the first and last days of the event respectively. In addition, this year sees the debut of a “Top 30 Bands – Passionate People’s Choice Award,” where the most popular band will win a cash prize of NT$10,000.

This year’s festival features a strong lineup, with five themed days: “Rock the Global Village,” “Taiwanese Family Rock,” “Women in Rock 2.0,” “Marine Independent Music Awards,” and “Surge, My Marine Festival!” In addition to popular bands from Russia, the United States, Australia, and Japan, outstanding Taiwanese independent bands and singers — including Won Fu, Chairman, Echo, Bai An, Jia Jia, io, Skin Tight, 2011 Marine Independent Music Awards winner BOXING (Boxing), and 2012 winner Freestyle — will also take the stage. Taiwan’s two leading creative bands, “Mayday” and “Sodagreen,” will further energize the festival by performing on the first and last days, bringing even more rock spirit to the event.

 

The highly anticipated “Marine Independent Music Awards” of the Gongliao International Marine Music Festival saw 234 competing bands go through intense preliminary rounds and three pre-festival competitions. The 10 finalist bands that emerged include: TRASH, TuT, P!SCO, FLUX, 中离狗 (Midway Dogs), 丘与乐 (Hill and Joy), 林少纬&使坏 (Lin Shaowei & Make Trouble), 鹿角乐团 (Deer Antler Band), 暗黑白领阶级 (Dark White Collar Class), and 蜜糖女郎 (Honey Girls). These top 10 bands will battle it out on the festival’s main stage on July 13 (Saturday) during the “Marine Independent Music Awards” night. On the finals day, last year’s Marine Independent Music Awards winner “Freestyle,” the Jury’s Grand Prize winner “Ding Ding & Xi Xi,” and the “Marine Star” “Gunfire Spicy” will also return to the festival to deliver high-energy performances for fans.

In addition, the New Taipei Travel Fan Club is holding a “Passionate People’s Choice Award” vote for the top 30 shortlisted bands. Voting runs from now until July 8. The band with the most votes will receive a NT$10,000 cash prize and a chance to perform on a live house stage. Participants in the vote can also enter to win signed posters of their favorite bands, as well as prizes such as a Bluetooth speaker worth NT$5,000, 10 x NT$200 7-11 gift vouchers, 10 marine festival commemorative towels, and 10 Music ROCK ON souvenir sets.
