The Gongliao and Wanggong Music Festivals Kick Off This Weekend, Mashagou to Begin on August 16

Did the pesky Typhoon Soulik ruin your plans for last weekend’s music festivals? Don’t lose heart just yet — the Gongliao Ocean Music Festival and Wanggong Fishing Light Festival will both take place this weekend, while the Tainan Mashagou Music Festival in southern Taiwan will kick off on August 16. Hurry up and reschedule your time to enjoy the summer maritime music vibes online or in person.

New Taipei City’s Gongliao International Marine Music Festival will return from July 19 to 22. On July 19, “Charge Up, My Sea Festival!” will feature bands from Singapore (Plug In), Malaysia (Haoto), and South Korea (Biuret…), with the headliner being the festival’s senior alumnus, Sodagreen, who will move fans with their tender love songs. July 20 is the highlight of the Gongliao Ocean Music Festival — the “Ocean Indie Music Awards.” In addition to last year’s champion, the Suixing Band, who will close the show, ten other nominated groups will also perform on stage, giving their all to compete for this year’s Ocean Flag. On July 21, “Taiwan Family Rock” will showcase performances by well-known bands such as Chairman. July 22, “Rock On,” will bring together multiple artists and bands, including Golden Melody Award nominee Bai An, the ethereal-voiced Jia Jia, Hong Kong’s Denise Ho, and Japan’s SANSANAR.

The Changhua County “Wanggong Fishing Light Festival” will be held on July 20 and 21 at Wanggong Fishing Port in Fangyuan Township. This year’s event will be hosted by Ailing and Wang Tong, with a lineup including artists and groups such as Guo Jing, Fang Jung Pan, Chen Lei, Li Weifeng, Universe People, and Bei Qi. The program also features themed fireworks shows: “Blessings from Matsu for Prosperity” on July 20 and “Wanggong Sunset Harvest Home” on July 21. Additionally, during the event period, 4,000 servings of chicken dishes, 8,000 tea eggs, and 8,000 boiled eggs will be offered for free at Fuhai Temple. There will also be limited-edition Wanggong oyster fritters and an FB check-in to receive eco-friendly fans activity.

The Tainan Mashagou Music Festival has been postponed to August 16 and 17. The lineup includes electronic music diva Jolin Tsai, who has won Golden Melody Awards, as the closing act. Other performers include rock king Jay Chou, hardcore rock band Quartet, as well as 10 other talented artists such as newcomer singer-songwriter Fish Leong, rising rock band Hush!, and more — all set to deliver the most authentic summer maritime music festival experience this year.
