What lies at the ends of the earth? As children, many of us dreamed of becoming geographical explorers, venturing to remote polar regions or South American islands to uncover the secrets of our blue planet. Now, that dream can become a reality. The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) has partnered with Silversea so that travelers cruising on the expedition ships Silver Explorer and Silver Galapagos can get an up-close look at some of the world’s most important geographical research and archival materials, brought vividly to life through a series of rare images and texts.

Founded nearly 200 years ago, the Royal Geographical Society is a pioneer in geographical science research, boasting the world’s richest and largest collection of geographical archives—over two million historical items. These include more than one million maps, 500,000 photographs, 250,000 books and periodicals, manuscripts, and significant artifacts dating back to 1482. The Galapagos Islands expedition on Silver Galapagos is divided into western and central-northern routes, each lasting a week. The western route departs from Baltra Island and sails around numerous islands in the west, south, and east—including Santiago, Bartolomé, Isabela, Fernandina, Floreana, San Cristóbal, and Santa Cruz—before returning to the starting point. This South American expedition promises to satisfy the adventurous spirit and deliver awe-inspiring experiences.
